Science themes
The scientific themes of the Festival, climate change,
marine ecology, Antarctica, genetics and nutrition,
link to the location, and have a direct relevance to the public.
To give some examples: the weather for the Saturday Salamanca Market
is a key factor to weekly success; the introduced sea star, Asterias
amurensis, can be clearly seen in Watermans Dock; the
research vessels for Antarctica often dock at Princes Wharf, and
have done so ever since the early days of exploration; and Salamanca
is a popular dining location! The artistic interpretations of these
themes will create further interest and discussion.
Ten science topics related to these themes are features in this
Festival - these are listed on the left. Explore these pages to
learn more about the work of ten Tasmanian scientists.
