Troy Ruffels

Troy's collaboration is with scientist Alan Williams.

My work is an exploration of the deep mystery and allure that the natural world holds and my desire to contemplate its meaning. Making images is a personal way of finding my place in the world. It is an exploration that is bound to poetry and imagination. I seek to distil meaning from a landscape in flux, a landscape in which I am an observer, but also an active emotive participant. In exploring my subjective experience of landscape I reflect on a number of histories and experiences, memories and associations. These encompass both the specific nuances of personal experiences and observations, to a more general spiritual awareness and engagement with place. By working between both painting and photography I aim to increase the emotive qualities of the printed image while maintaining the validation of the particular attainable through photography. I consider other art, and the cultural climate of which I am a part. Together these considerations function to place me within a contemporary living environment.
